My modeling experience goes back to the early 1970's starting with car model kits, as with most modelers, by the mid 70's I began modeling WWII military in 1/35 scale. Sheperd Paine was my idol and I always tried to re-create the models he built
My biggest influence into model railroading came from my older brother Dave, who helped me to build my first layout in our basement when I was still in Jr. High School.....middle school these days. It was a simple layout built on sheets of plywood, but I had hours of fun running those trains around and adding what I could to it over time
After graduating from school and starting a career in engineering, marriage, and having two children, my time for modeling was very limited so it had to take a back seat for awhile. But I still made time to read every article and magazine on model railroading I could find, along with building an occasional model when I could....and make plans for a future layout.....still planning that part!
That initial influence and interest my brother instilled in me, stayed with me through out the years, and after reading a Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette magazine an engineer friend brought into work one day back in 1984, I went out the very next day and purchased a Walthers catalog. From that point on, I was hooked for life and have been a passionate model railroader ever since.
Victor Creek Models was started in 2002, after watching how well finished models were selling on eBay. I decided to take an old Tichy crane set off my display self that I had started, but never finished, fixed it up and listed it on eBay expecting to get maybe $50-$60 for it. To my amazement, it sold for over $100.00 and generated several more orders for models. I began building and selling models on eBay, and for customers in my spare time, while working my full time job. After 6 months, I went part time on my regular job and began building models full time. I now have a fantasic customer base, and my models are in several countries around the world.
Future plans include coming out with a few of my own model kits, writing articles for model railroading magazines, and of course, building my dream layout one day!!
