By using Paper shingles, you can achieve a wide range of looks.  Weathering them gives you a nice aged appearance and lifting some of the individual shingles show a sign of wear and decay.  By removing some areas of the shingles completely, and exposing the sub roof inderneath, you get an enven more decayed look.
